Jamieson Ward is just an average guy, trying his damnedest to be a good man, a good husband, a good father, and a good papa. Some days he wins. Some days he goes to bed still trying.

Walter Mitty has nothing on him.

He's been a farmer and a soldier. A programmer and a systems analyst. A high-tech consultant, a NASA project manager, a banker. He's driven forklifts and eighteen-wheelers, taught high school, managed a sporting goods department, run a call center, sold land, planned events, and managed a store for a Fortune 100 company. He won a World Championship as a Cowboy Action Shooter.

Most recently, he and his Bride loaded life into a 45-foot RV and went Workamping — traveling the country, working where the road took them, living the kind of life most people only imagine. Eventually, Utah called them back. It has a way of doing that.

That's probably why the old myths call to him the way they do. Every life he's lived taught him something — about people, about endurance, about the things that don't change no matter how many years pass. The Welsh understood that. The old stories weren't superstition. They were a reckoning with the world as it actually is: older, stranger, and more watchful than most people want to believe.

The Man with the Dragon-Head Cane grew out of that belief. Out of a life spent in enough corners of the human experience to know that the surface of things is never the whole story.

Jamieson lives in southern Utah, where the landscape has a long memory. He's working to complete The Man with the Dragon-Head Cane trilogy.
